TIP: Websites such as BC-Counsellors.org and PsychologyToday are useful for viewing profiles of counsellors in the BC area. You can often view counsellor descriptions on their organization and personal website as well. Click here to learn about me: About Me

When you’re choosing a counsellor, it can help to have an idea of what you want to work on in therapy so you can make sure they have experience in this area. You might look for a therapist based on a recommended style of counselling, however it can also be useful to look outside the box as most therapy styles can address all concerns.⠀
⠀
Some counsellors offer an initial consultation. I offer free telephone or in-person consultations so people can meet me and get a feel for my personality and approach to therapy.⠀
⠀
Choosing a counsellor often comes down to seeing who you feel most comfortable and can connect with. Do you think you might prefer a therapist your age, someone who is older, same gender or opposite gender? Do you want a therapist who is religious, from the same or different cultural or ethnic background? Do you feel welcomed in their office? Considering these things when you’re choosing a counsellor can make the process much easier.
