Hi, I'm Ashley
Pronouns she/her
I take a no-nonsense approach to therapy that mixes old theory with new ideas, like a vintage flip. I think that what makes each of us unique comes from our earliest experiences, then our ideas about the world are shaped by what else happens in life. I’m holistic-minded and trauma-informed, so I understand how each part of life contributes to well-being, and how some patterns that we have to undo come from experiences we might not have even had firsthand. Just like how gritty sand makes a stone shiny and smooth in a rock tumbler (because I love shiny gems), therapy is a place where you can polish your self-image and improve your mental health and relationships.
I'm specially trained in a few key areas that not many people think to put together (bacon and jam, anyone? Don't knock it 'til you try it!) My therapy style combines Adlerian psychology (all about attachment and early relationships), a pinch of mindfulness, a dash of CBT, a healthy sprinkling of EMDR, Lifespan Integration and a teaspoon of Gottman Method to taste. Don't worry about what this means, we'll work together to find the best combination of approaches to create a treatment plan that's tailored to your unique needs.
People come to me to talk about:
- anxiety & mood
- perfectionism
- people-pleasing and boundaries
- relationships (family, partner, work, heck even pets)
- couples therapy (where 3 is not a crowd)
- stress management
- self-esteem & self-compassion
I practice what I preach, so you can trust that working with me means that I can relate on the level of lived experiences, plus my knowledge and continued training. I'm book smart and street smart when it comes to therapy.
I reside on the unceded ancestral territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking people & Sḵwx̱wú7mesh first nations that was not surrendered. Land acknowledgement is not enough, we must raise others up and provide accessible services with cultural humility.
Here are some ways that I stay sharp as a therapist:
- regularly seeking education to increase cultural safety when working with Indigenous Peoples
- learning ways to queer my practice to stay LGBTQ2S+ friendly
- participating in annual conferences (way more fun than it sounds!)
- continued training in therapy techniques
The fine print:
I hold a professional license as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) so you can rest assured that I have been professionally trained and tested. I am a trained EMDR Therapist. I have completed level 1 of the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy and I am a certified Gottman Leader for The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work Couples Workshop (it’s a mouthful, I know). I am a registered provider for ICBC, FNHA and CVAP. I might also be registered with your insurance provider if that’s required, just ask!
Let's get started.
I'm passionate about helping people feel more connected to themselves, others and the world around them.
