Ashley Greensmyth Counselling provides mental health services through online individual counselling and online couples therapy. I specialize in untangling the connections between anxiety, self-worth & attachment and creating satisfying relationships.

I don’t know about you, but old school wins over n I don’t know about you, but old school wins over new school to me on this one.

I firmly believe that having elements from childhood in your adult life is vital to your mental health. It’s also a way to stay connected to your true essence, your spirit.

In general, people feel better after spending time in nature and I think it’s not just because of the benefits of being outdoors. We tend to have a positive association with unstructured free time and adventure because the world was once a completely new experience to us. Boredom was a chance to notice things and become creative.

So maybe you don’t need to “raw dog boredom“ and stare off for an hour without dissociating to prove to yourself that your algorithm hasn’t rotted your brain. Maybe you just need to do some of the things you used to do.

Throwing it back to the good old days of Instagram Throwing it back to the good old days of Instagram when I did a lot of lip syncing—dubbed over one of my favourite boundary setting icons (David Rose) and his mother.

(Story in a story— I was about to make some kinda bland but relatable therapy meme of it, like “you just… set a boundary” or “you just… uses coping strategy” but thought better of it. So imagine it’s your most typical therapy scenario. Thenario.)

There’s quite literally nothing like having a huma There’s quite literally nothing like having a human person with real intelligence to help you through hard moments and celebrate your wins in life.

As accessible as AI can be, it lacks standardization, an ethical code, years of training and expertise, unique personality, clinical supervision, discretion, humour, empathy, general human expression, belonging, camaraderie, trust, honesty, sternness when you need it, accountability, and warmth that isn’t completely manufactured by inputs.

I recommend self-inquiry through books, podcasts, and conversations when you’re on your healing and growth journey. Save the human relating for actual humans.

When I was young, I experienced belonging as fitti When I was young, I experienced belonging as fitting in with others. Falling in line somewhere, marching to the general beat of the drum (instead of my own).

“You like this? I like this too.”
“You don’t like this? I don’t like this either.”

Maybe it took growing up to understand it deeper down—that belonging isn’t performative. Belonging is about feeling connected and accepted as you are.

Save this for when you need the reminder that you belong. 🤍
